Where the hell can you beat children in school in Texas? Enlighten me.
I’m reposting this (and deleting the original post, to avoid duplication, to answer the question above. The answer is, in many (but not all) Texan schools — and it’s the same next door in Arkansas, where I teach (this is RobertLovesPi posting this). I have actually had the legal right to beat children, on the job, because of the fact that I am a teacher here (this is very common in the South, where many accept “spare the rod and spoil the child” without question). I have never exercised that right, for I find corporal punishment (also known as “beating children”) barbaric, ineffective, and nauseating. It’s an abuse of power, and greater physical size and strength. It also only tends to perpetuate violence. If a teacher “paddles” or “gives licks to” a student, a lesson IS being taught: violence solves problems. That’s NOT a good lesson to teach anyone.
